Guy named Vino walks into and out of a few bars....
Developing new wine flavors AND bringing fun, positive wine apparel and extras to life.
Just took a couple of wine lovers and some efficient drinking to bring this VinoGear lovechild to fruition.
Our website is new and loaded but not too loaded; you get our drift.
And here are some straight up notes from Jeff about why, why, why!?
I have made wine a big part of my career. Vino has been my nickname for 20-30 years, ever since I was involved with rugby and the restaurant world.
Not surprisingly, I have made a wine called Rugby Red, partly to honor rugby, and partly to honor myself and the amazing fact that I played 12 years in college and club. Teamed up with a long time friend and former rugger, Regina Jones, from Decatur GA way and got this thing going
Turns out, she liked wine, too. The chances!
A broker for a Napa, California company, I made Rugby Red wine from a 2012 vintage with the help of Doce Roble Winery in Paso Robles, California.
I directed the mixing of grapes and would sample the mixtures until he felt he had the right combination to produce a wine that is 60 percent Syrah and 40 percent cabernet sauvignon. I developed my wine sensibility working in the restaurant industry starting in 1984 – my sister is a chef as well. But then I gravitated to the wine industry, and at various times has been a partner or regional sales manager for different distributors.
I even picked the label, showing my name and a photo of me as a rugby player on the front while the back contains the usual list of ingredients, a thanks to the winery that helped me and my favorite statement: “Water separates people, wine brings them together.” The label represents a personal connection to the wine as it features me as a player for the Wichita Barbarians in the late-eighties.
So far, the wine has been distributed:in AZ restaurants of Caffe Boa in Ahwatukee, Niktoni's in Gilbert, Mesa and Ahwatukee Nello’s, Italian Grotto in Scottsdale, El Vinaio and Desert Eagle Brewing Company of Falcon Field in Mesa, Angelina’s Italian Restaurant in Lake Havasu and A Latte Vino in Casa Grande. Stores that have stocked it in AZ are Sun Devil Liquors in Mesa and Jerry’s Liquors and Tops Liquors in Tempe.
